Your Journey Begins Here!

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

WHAT TO DO NEXT?

Step 1: Make sure you watch the welcome video above.

Step 2: Begin with the first module below. Modules 1–9 each contain a video explanation that is less than 20 minutes long, with reference materials/links when necessary. Module 10 is a bonus with the entire PR module that I recorded for members of The Art of Selling Art. Together, these will jump-start your art business.

Step 3: At the bottom of this page is a growing FAQ. Remember, you don’t have to learn alone. Join either the Discord or Facebook group to ask me questions about what you've learned or need clarity on and to find a community of artists working toward their goals.

When should I apply for an LLC?

Generally, you will start with a sole proprietorship. The purpose of an LLC is to separate your personal assets from the business’s liabilities. Generally, you would move to an LLC when the business’s risks are too great for your personal finances to absorb.

What editing software do I need?

This depends on the type of artwork you create. In order to sell online you need to be able to create images of your work. At a minimum, you need photo editing software like Lightroom or Snapseed.

How can I diversify my art business?

You can diversify by selling your art in different silos such as licensing and traditional art shows. Or licensing and doing art as a service.

Can I still sell my art online without any social following?

Yes, you can do so by using advertising to circumvent social reach.

What piece of advice would you give someone first starting out in their art business?

Keep your mindset on the horizon and prepare for troughs of working through the tasks that don’t immediately result in sales.

How do you stay inspired or where do you go for inspiration?

Inspiration is intrinsic, it comes from an internal crunching of all the influences in your life. Keep those influences rich. What you really mean to ask is, “how does one stay *motivated?” This you do by keeping close to a community of like-minded people, participating in their momentum and allowing them to participate in yours.
